Surrogacy for heterosexual marriages
Married couples or heterosexual couples who wish to go through a surrogacy process to achieve their dreams have a number of options available to them.
Ukraine
In Ukraine, one of the main requirements for surrogacy is to be a heterosexual married couple whose woman does not have reproductive capacity or whose pregnancy may put her life or the baby’s life at risk. Ukraine does not place any limitations on how long the marriage has been active.
Georgia
In Georgia, those heterosexual married couples who have a medical report stating that the woman is unable to gestate or that the gestation process may endanger the life of the mother or the foetus, can apply to Georgia for a procedure. It is essential to prove that the couple has been married for at least one year or, if not, to prove that the couple has been living together for at least one year.
Other countries
In the rest of the countries where surrogacy is permitted, heterosexual married couples who wish to do so can access surrogacy. Among the most prominent are Mexico and Colombia.
Surrogacy for unmarried heterosexual couples
Ukraine
In Ukraine, unmarried heterosexual couples will not be able to carry out surrogacy in Ukraine, as marriage is a prerequisite.
Georgia
In Georgia, heterosexual couples whose wife cannot successfully carry a child, and who can prove at least 1 year of cohabitation, may choose Georgia as their destination.
Other countries
In any other country where surrogacy is legalised, unmarried heterosexual couples will be able to carry out a surrogacy procedure. It is important to know that these countries may have additional requirements, such as the woman being under 50 years old or a medical report stating her reproductive incapacity.
